Reading Mizo

Reading isn't really my passion yet I still remember myself reading a Mizo Newspaper (Aizawl Thupuan to be exact) while traveling in a local train on the way to my college. It was almost a decade ago. A Tamilian Guy sitting right beside me looked over the page I was on, as if he understood what's written there. Later, he asked me if I was reading a Spanish Newspaper.

"No," I answered.

"What language then?" He continued.

I said it's a Mizo Newspaper and he continued to ask me what the Mizo was. Finally, I reached my destination and got down from the train before he asked me who my girlfriend was and how I met her.

A couple of weeks back, I took my fiancee to airport and I was outside reading a Mizo Novel while she was in there. Thih Sak Pawh Ka Ngam by Darrokima, which is about their childhood back in seventies I believe. Every night, I used to have my fiancee read this book for me and I was on the page, which she was about to continue for the next night.

I really enjoyed these lines-

"Rema, tukinah i insil em?"

"Teuh nang, ka hmai chu ka phih."

"Lal a lo kal dawn a, Pu Thanga'n fai a en dawn an ti."

"Fai en ni a ni awzawng lo."

"Nilo mah se, Lal a lo kal dawn vangin a en dawn an ti vek a lawm."

"Ho e, hmai ka phih tho a."

"Rokhuma pawh insil tur in a haw leh a..."

"Haw peih tawh awzawng lo!"

"Pawilo, min hrem na lutuk vak chuang lo ang ti raw...?"

I even like this conversation much more -

"EE chu eng nge?"

"Ka hre bik lo. An thu lutuk an ti. Fakmawia pa chuan Aizawl leh Sialsuk inkar ah EE chu a thu ber a ti. An hausa rap a la ti zui mawle!!"

"SDO ai chuan an hausak bik ka ring miah lo."

"Teuh lo mai! Fakmawia pa chuan SDO hian pawisa thingrem khat nei ta sela, EE chuan thingrem thum vel an nei ang a ti mawle!"

While I was on these conversation, a man next to my bench asked me if I was reading a Korean Novel. I just said Nope and left the place before he asked me what the actual content of the book was.
